Marine Drive, Kochi


Marine Drive is a picturesque esplanade in Kochi. It is facing the back waters and is a very popular hangout in Kochi. Vehicles are strictly prohibited on this walkway. It starts from the High Court Junction and extends up to Rajendra Maidan and is about 3kms. There are some boat jetties along the walkway. The boat services operated from here are to the oil tanker berth, Cochin shipyard, Bolgatty Palace, Mattanchery Jewish Synagogue, Jew Street, Vallarpadam Terminal and so on. Several shopping malls, fast food joints, coffee shops, local eateries are present along the promenade. The sea seems magnificent from the path and sun rise and sun set both is viewed from here. There are two contemporarily constructed bridges – Rainbow Bridge and Chinese fishing net bridge on Marine Drive and at night both bridges are decorated with lights and the view attracts a lot of tourists. The GCDA constructed the present Marine Drive which includes the Shanmugham Road, part of the Kochi Lake and the present Marine walkway. Corporate giants have occupied their offices adjacent to the walkway. Apartments are also in high demand in Marine drive apart from the shopping centers.
